Suresh Gopinathan Nair born on 26 June 1960, often credited as Suresh Gopi is an Indian film actor who works mainly in Malayalam cinemas. He was born in Kollam Chettiar Pillai community to Gnanalekshmi and Gopinathan Pillai. Suresh Gopi did his schooling in the Infant Jesus Anglo-Indian High School at Thangasseri. Suresh Gopi graduated in English language from Fatima Mata National College in Kollam. Suresh Gopi is married to Radhika, the granddaughter of late actress Aranmula Ponnamma, and the couple is blessed with four children Lekshmi (deceased in 1997), Gokul, Bhagya, Bhavna and Madhav. He is settled at Trivandrum and currently residing at Sasthamangalam.
Suresh Gopi first appeared in onscreen as a child artist in the movie Odeyil Ninnu (1965). He is famous for his roles in police dramas. Suresh Gopi is noted for his leading roles as much as his character roles. He is also famous for his philanthropic efforts. 1990’s is considered to be the peak time in his career as during this time, he had a number of projects in his hands and of which many of the movies were big hits.
Before coming to the film world, Suresh Gopi had shown great interest in the field of literature. Suresh Gopi is famous for philanthropic efforts. In the year 1998, he won the National Film Award for Best Actor for the movie Kaliyattam and in the same year he won the State Award for Best Actor for the same movie again. In the year 2005, Suresh Gopi was considered for the Kerala State Film Award for the movie Ullam for his portrayal of a mentally distressed person and as a doctor in Makalkku, but lost out to Mammotty.
Suresh Gopi is a strong supporter of Indian National Congress and was close to former Chief Minister late K. Karunakaran.
